In order to cooperate with the national transportation policies, Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection Co. (FETC) was commissioned by Taiwan Area National Freeway Bureau to set up the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) service. Shareholders of FETC include Far EasTone Telecommunication Co., Ltd. (FET), TECO Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd. (TECO), Systex Corporation, and MiTAC Inc. FETC not only combined the best experiences from the four shareholders but absorbed the superior operational strategies from the globe and imported the most advanced technology. Meanwhile, clinging to the following fundamental principles: be contingent, be truthful, and be innovative are our business approaches to provide our customers with the best ETC services.
According to the planning of FETC, the per-entry-based construction of ETC was completed by 2005, and started the operation on February 10th, 2006. Since then, it has benefited freeway drivers. For instance, for those who travel from north to south of Taiwan, ETC system could reduce them approximately 45 minutes of driving time. In addition, traffic is expected to improve. FETC is going to fully cooperate with government authorities to implement per-entry to distance-based system. We estimated per-entry to distance-based system construction will be completed by the end of 2012. Once operation, we can all enjoy driving on freeway without stopping to pay toll. Besides that, the reduction of oil consumption and improvement of air and noise quality will also be achieved. In the nearly future, drivers will not only enjoy the audio-visual equipment in the cars but also improvement in car security and driver’s safety through the Telematics systems. Furthermore, combination of such advanced technology and our excellent services can offer our customers the convenience and efficiency such as navigation, travel information, roadway information, mobile commerce, multimedia entertainments, and motorcade management.
ETC serves as the leading role in the development of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) in Taiwan and it is expected to stimulate the development of domestic industries such as manufacturing, photoelectric, information and telecommunication, and even the financial institutions. Via ETC, the public will benefit from the convenience of “One Card Transportation” and the advantage of improved traffic flow, intelligent transportation, and superior quality of life. In order to enter IT transportation era, we need your ongoing support and continuous interest in ETC system.
