The predecessor of Trade-Van was “The Cargo Clearance Automation Planning and Promotion (CCAPP) Task Force”, which was formed under the approval of the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China to address the difficulties faced by the exporters and importers in customs clearance. The mission of the CCAPP task force was thus to build a clearance automation and customs duty payment system to speed up customs clearance operations and help traders reduce trading costs. After four years of efforts, the CCAPP task force successfully set up the customs clearance automation system, which reduced the air cargo clearance time from 4 hours to 0.216 hours on the average and shortened the sea cargo clearance operations from 6 hours to an average of 2.049 hours. Meanwhile, it took less than 10 minutes for the C1 (without document or physical inspection) customs clearance and cargo examination, opening a new era in the international trade history of Taiwan. The CCAPP task force was thus conferred the Best Information Application Award by the Executive Yuan.

After successful completion of the mission, many people considered it a pity to dissolve the CCAPP task force while the government also wanted to keep it to help develop other electronic processes for all industries. Thus, the CCAPP task force was privatized and reformed as a company (with the government holding less than 50% of shares) in 1996. The company was named Trade-Van Information Services Co. (VAN stands for “Value Added Network”), whose mission was to continue strengthening customs clearance automation services, actively explore the network resources, research and develop state-of-the-art technology, expand business and service scopes, and provide a full range of value-added network services.

(1)Customs Clearance Service
Customs clearance, as one of our essential services, mainly provides air and sea cargo declaration and trade facilitation services and generates revenue from customs data exchange.
According to the statistics from Ministry of Finance, R.O.C., the amount of customs declaration has become steady in Mar. 2014 and gradually grown to 3.3 million copies in Dec. 2014, a 19.2% growth from the same period of 2013. The total amount of customs declaration reached 32.42 million copies in 2014, a 12.2% growth.

(2)Retailing e-Commerce
Retailers usually have rather different working process from those of its clients or supplier; therefore, it is required for enterprises at both ends of the supply chain to exchange and integrate their data upon the disparity of adopted ERP system. e-Hub solution from TRADE-VAN can help alleviate such troublesome exchange between different systems, and has acquired 80% of the market among wholesalers and retailers. In addition, our integrative service platform for sellers, using electronic supply chain’s concept, can help expand the original channel management into fields of suppliers, distributors or even material sources. In the wake of adulterated food crises, we believe large market growth for such business is expectable.

(3)E-Commerce and Supply Chain Service
To serve retailing clients, we have designed and constructed a series of systems, such as supply chain platform in 2004 for information exchange between retailers and suppliers, the third-party electronic invoice platform in 2005, and the integrated product database in 2009.

(4)Information Security Services
Many companies have set up their websites, but do not monitor closely and effectively, causing those websites unprotected. There are also potential threats due to negligence in the development of software and programs, leaving rooms for hackers to attack. Thus, there is always a strong demand for information security services. TRADE-VAN has good experiences in introducing the information security management system and related protection measures to the market before. Therefore, we can provide timely services to our clients, and it is an opportunity for us to strengthen customer relationships and expand our markets.

(5)The initial practice of the internet of things and big data
After years of marketing effort and relevant governmental implementation, IDC has predicted that in 2015 the internet of things will start its practice phase, and business demand will rise 3 times. The development force is strong, in 2015, over 25% companies will import big data solutions. The Taiwan market is advanced from the analysis of log data, yield rate, marketing effects, customer needs, competitor activities, to ubiquitous business intelligent analysis. Big data is an important force, but the focus is still on the problems and answers. The value of technology is always the answers, not the data.
