Nuance Communications, a provider of conversational AI, has announced the name for its upcoming Automotive spin-off: Cerence Inc. It will be an independent, publicly traded automotive software company.

In 2016, DiDi Chuxing , one of the world’s leading mobile transportation platforms, had established an autonomous driving team. The team since then has grown to a comprehensive R&D team covering areas including HD mapping, perception, behavior prediction, planning and control, infrastructure and simulation, labeling, problem diagnosis, vehicle modifications, connected car, and security, among others. The team is developing and testing autonomous driving vehicles in China and the United States.

The nonprofit group Consumer Watchdog has issued a report, with the help of car industry technologists, that finds all the top 2020 cars have Internet connections to safety critical systems that leave them vulnerable to fleet wide hacks. The group and experts warn that a fleet wide hack at rush-hour could result in a 9-11 scale catastrophe with approximately 3,000 deaths.
